  • What are your specialties?
    A Way Forward Counseling is the only counseling center in Central Florida that specializes in a narrative-based, collaborative approach. This approach understands and acknowledges the role that cultural and societal expectations about sex, gender, race, sexuality, family, religion, class, disability have on health and well-being.
  • How long are counseling sessions?
    Sessions are typically 50-minutes in length. When necessary, longer sessions may be offered as available.
  • What are my rights as a client in counseling?
    As a client, it is important you know your rights so you can make informed choices that are best for you. You have a right to information about counseling including expectations about billing, treatment, and scheduling. You have a right to confidentiality, with limits described below and the ability to stop services at any time. For more information, visit NBCC. If you are uninsured or choosing to pay out-of-pocket, you are entitled to a good faith estimate of expected medical costs.   • Are counseling sessions confidential?
    A safe environment is vital to build a therapeutic relationship and part of that safety requires confidentiality. Therapists are mandated to keep any communications or records of client visits entirely confidential. There are a few exceptions: The client signs a waiver to provide information to a third party (another healthcare provider, for instance), The client poses a risk to self or others as defined by law, Ongoing child or elder abuse is reported or suspected, When client information is court mandated.
  • How has COVID-19 impacted therapy?
    Counseling sessions at A Way Forward Counseling are now being done via tele-health and in-person with proper social distancing. Additionally, we have waived our late fees for flexibility during this time of high-need. Find more information here.
  • Where are you located?
    You can find us at Ciara Creek Executive Center inside of Positive Steps Counseling. This location is easily accessible from Longwood, Lake Mary, Sanford and surrounding areas. Additionally, we are located near many schools including: Lake Mary High School Greenwood Lakes Middle School Lyman High School Oak Arbor Christian School, Inc. Seminole Science Charter School Lake Mary Elementary School Crystal Lake Elementary School Seminole State College - Sanford/Lake Mary
  • Do you offer virtual/telehealth sessions?
    Yes, we currently do offer tele-health sessions as well as a free phone consultation for new and potential clients.
  • Are your offices accessible?
    It is vital that our services are accessible to everyone and we are working to make our offices as accessible as possible. There is one designated parking space for disabled people to use with a ramp that can be used to get to the door. Doorways are approximately 34 inches wide and furniture is placed with sufficient space. Bathrooms have a grab-bar to be used for those with less range of mobility. While the office space is fragrance free, general spaces (waiting room, bathroom, etc.) are not. If there are concerns or questions, contact us.
  • How much does counseling cost?
    You can find information about pricing and counseling costs here. A standard, 50-minute counseling session costs $60.
  • Do you take insurance?
    A Way Forward Counseling does not currently accept any insurance. We do attempt to keep costs low at $60 per 50-minute session with reduced fee rates available for those with financial hardship.
  • How can I make payments?
    Payments are due in full at the time of service and can be made by cash, check, or credit/debit card.
